It’s officially winter, and as the chillier weather approaches, it’s time to start getting your wardrobe ready for cozy and stylish winter outfits. But just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style for warmth. With a little creativity and some key pieces, you can put together cute and casual winter outfits that will keep you feeling comfortable and looking fashionable all season long.
Layer it Up
Layering is key when it comes to staying warm and stylish in the winter. Start with a lightweight base layer, like a crew neck long or short sleeve tee. From there, add on heavier layers like a chunky knit sweater or cardigan, and top it off with a stylish coat or jacket. I have an entire list of the top wool coats for the season you can find here.
For added warmth and style, try incorporating different textures and patterns into your layers. For example, pair a cable knit sweater with a plaid coat or mix a blanket scarf with a sleek sherpa-lined jacket.
Multi-Layers
Don’t limit yourself to just two layers – multi-layering is another great way to have a cute and updated winter outfit.
Try layering a turtleneck or mock neck under a button down shirt. You can leave it unbottoned then drap a cashmere sweater over your shoulders or throw on a long coat like a trench.
Adding a button down or long sleeve under a leather dress is another popular choice you need to try this season!
Bared Legs? No Problem
Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to retire your skirts and dresses for the season. Opt for thicker fabrics like wool or leather, and pair them with tights (fleece lined or wool blend) to keep your legs warm.
Have fun adding pops of colors or textures with your tights. You’ll have endless cute and casual outfit options with this, and we’ll be seeing this trend for the rest of the winter months!
Leather Pants and Tee
For another cute & casual winter outfit idea with an edgy twist, try pairing leather pants with a simple t-shirt. Some of my favorite basic tees that I recommend to clients are from Cuts Clothing and Uniqlo.
Top it off with a cashmere/wool blend cardigan or oversized jacket and ankle boots for added warmth and style and play up your jewelry and accessories here.
Sweater Dresses & Sets
Sweater dresses are not only cozy and comfortable, but they can also be effortlessly stylish. Pair them with knee-high boots or tights and ankle boots for a complete winter look.
Another trendy option is to wear a matching sweater set, consisting of a knit top and skirt or pants. This will not only keep you warm but also give off an easy, put-together vibe.
Maxi Skirts in Denim and Satin
Maxi length skirts are going to be a main staple for all of 2024. There was a rise in the popularity of denim and satin materials, as you can easily wear them from season to season. Pair your skirt with a cropped sweater top with knee-high boots or sneakers for a trendy and casual look this winter.
Icy Blues
While winter may seem like a time for dark and dreary colors, incorporating bright and bold hues into your outfits can add some much-needed cheer to the season. Try pairing an icy blue sweater or coat with neutral pieces, like black jeans or a simple white t-shirt. You’ll have the ultimate cute and casual winter outfit with a color that can carry you over into Spring.
Red Pops
Another way to add a pop of color to your winter wardrobe is with the trending color of the season, red. A red coat or sweater can instantly elevate any outfit and make a statement. And for those who are feeling extra bold, try pairing different shades of red together for a monochromatic look.
For more options, I talk about easy ways to add pops of red to your wardrobe in my post here.
Grey and Burgundy
Another color combination that is perfect for any winter outfit is grey and burgundy. The muted tones of grey pair well with the rich, deep hue of burgundy, creating a cozy yet stylish look.
Mix and match different shades of each color, or go for a monochromatic look by layering various shades of grey together. For an easy cute and casual outfit, try out grey pants or jeans with a burgundy sweater. Or, pair a grey pleated skirt and sweater with burgundy accents like shoes or hair accessories.
Black & White Striped Sweater
The polo cut black & white striped sweater has proven itself to be a must-have item for the winter season. Its timeless color combo paired with the trendy cut gives it a mix of classic and modern appeal. You can create a cute and casual winter outfit by pairing it with black leggings and tall black boots. For an added warm layer, add on a puffer vest.
Apres Ski Inspired
Winter is the perfect time to embrace apres ski-inspired fashion. Think cozy knits, fair isle patterns, and fur accents. These elements not only add warmth but also give off a chic and luxurious vibe while still creating an easy and casual winter look.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match different textures, such as pairing a cable knit sweater with faux fur-lined boots. And for an extra touch of glamour, opt for a statement fur coat or vest.
Tweed
Tweed is a classic winter fabric that can elevate any outfit. It adds a touch of sophistication and gives off a cozy, upscale look.
Try pairing a tweed blazer with leather pants or go for an entire set. You can also mix and match tweed pieces with more casual items, such as a chunky knit sweater or straight-leg jeans.
Dark Florals
Florals don’t have to be reserved for spring and summer. Dark floral prints can add a touch of drama and depth to your winter wardrobe.
Pair a floral dress or skirt with tights and knee-high boots for a stylish and weather-appropriate outfit. You can also layer a floral blouse under a chunky knit sweater for added visual interest.
Winter Whites
Don’t be afraid to wear white in the winter. An all-white outfit can look incredibly chic and modern. Opt for different textures such as a cable knit sweater paired with cream-colored pants or a wool coat over a satin skirt for some of the best and cutest winter outfit options.
You can also mix shades of white, such as ivory and cream, for a more subtle take on this trend. A stylist tip is to keep your look light and bright by finishing off with a pair of light-colored boots.
Just be sure to steer clear of any slushy puddles!
Dressing stylishly in winter
Doesn’t mean compromising on comfort or warmth. With a combination of layering, experimenting with textures, prints, and colors, along with the right accessories, you can easily create fabulous winter outfits that keep you cute and casual. Remember, the key is to embrace the season and have fun with your wardrobe. So, bundle up, get creative, and make your winter fashion statement this season!
