Looking for some Thanksgiving outfit inspiration? With the holiday quickly approaching, it’s time to start planning for your outfit. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or joining friends and family for a feast, there’s no better excuse to dress up than on Thanksgiving.
In this guide, I’ll be sharing some of the best Thanksgiving outfit ideas that are sure to turn heads and show off your fashion flair.
With the top Fall Fashion Trends in mind, I’ve got an outfit for every type of style aesthetic. So let’s get started!
Satin Skirt Ensembles: Shining Bright this Thanksgiving
Satin skirts have been all the rage for most of this year, and they’re here to stay for Thanksgiving too. They give a touch of luxury and elegance, while also being comfortable enough to wear all day long. Since their rise in popularity, I like to think of them as the new ‘go-to jeans’. You can literally wear a satin skirt with bodysuits, t-shirts, and sweaters. Below I’ll show you some of the best outfits you can make with a midi or maxi satin skirt for Thanksgiving.
Monochromatic Skirt and Cropped Sweater Combo
One of the best Thanksgiving outfits you can pick this year, and one I’ll be sporting, is a monochromatic skirt and sweater.
A monochromatic look, which is clothing from the same color family, gives an instant style upgrade with minimal effort. You’ll look chic and put together with two pieces of clothing!
The Fall Trend for 2023 is to pair a satin skirt with a cropped sweater. If you don’t have one, you can easily achieve this by either tucking your sweater into your bra band or getting a belt and tucking the sweater up and into it.
Whichever you find more comfortable, you’ll create a flattering proportional shape for yourself.
Some popular color choices for Thanksgiving and the rest of the Fall season are Bronze, Chocolate Brown, Champagne, Deep Wine, or Emerald Green.
Neutral with Bold Colors Skirt and Sweater Combo
If monochromatic isn’t your thing, try this combo for your Thanksgiving outfit. Take a neutral color midi or maxi satin skirt (Cream is my ultimate), and pair it with a bold colored sweater like deep red or burnt orange to add that touch of spice.
You can even swap that around. Have the bold color on the bottom, and the neutral color on top.
Play with textures to add dimension, like a wool sweater or a chunky knit and an embossed boot. You’ll have just the right amount of color to make your outfit pop without being too overwhelming. This Thanksgiving look is great for when you want to be comfortable and cozy while still looking stylish and on-trend.

Casual Chic with Satin Skirt and T-Shirt Combo
For a more casual alternative, this is the ultimate Thanksgiving outfit for you. A satin skirt paired with a festive graphic or plain t-shirt creates a perfect balance of casual and chic. This is a great option if your Thanksgiving is going to be during warmer weather too.
A big trend this year was a satin skirt paired with an oversized tee, but you can definitely wear it with a more fitted one for a subtle figure-flattering outfit. I recommend this because you’ll still want to have a layering option. Try an oversized bomber or moto jacket, or you can drape a sweater over your shoulders.
Another Casual Version
If those are still too dressy for you, never worry. I’ve got simple changes you can make. While Thanksgiving is the perfect time to pair your outfit with boots, dress it down a little more by switching them out for sneakers.
Stay on trend by pairing your outfit with white sneakers like the Adidas Sambas, which is one of the TOP SHOES to have right now.
Dress it down even more by layering with a denim jacket. Easy, cute, and casual!
Satin Slip Dress Thanksgiving Outfits
Don’t feel like wearing a skirt? Go for a satin slip dress instead! This is a great way to feel comfortable and still look absolutely chic. Give it an updated Fall touch by layering a turtleneck underneath for added warmth and texture. Add some shape to your outfit by using a belt at the narrowest part of your waist. Knee high boots are another easy shoe option for this look.
If you’re going to a dressier dinner, here’s an outfit inspiration from celebrity menswear stylist, Ashley Weston. She wore a metallic chocolate brown slip dress, with pointed mules and a wool coat. It’s the perfect balance of dressy and cozy, making it appropriate for a more formal Thanksgiving gathering.

Embrace the Sweater Dress for your Thanksgiving Outfit
A sweater dress is another favorite Thanksgiving outfit and for Fall in general. It’s comfortable, stylish, and can easily be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Pair it with pointed knee-high boots for a more formal look, or opt for ankle boots and a leather jacket for a more casual vibe. While there are so many color choices with this, you can never go wrong with a neutral pick this holiday.
To add some definition to your sweater dress, try cinching in your waist with a statement belt. You can also layer a collared shirt underneath for added warmth and style. Or, choose one with a matching cardigan for a trendy look.
Trust me, this will be so comfortable after that huge dinner! And again, don’t be afraid to try new textures and patterns to make your sweater dress stand out.
Fall Florals: A Fresh Take on Thanksgiving Outfits
Floral prints are usually reserved for Spring and Summer but don’t be afraid to incorporate them into your Fall wardrobe. The key is to pick floral prints that are in a more earthy tone. Those are going to be green, brown, and deep red.
A floral midi dress is a great outfit option for Thanksgiving – it’s feminine, easy to wear, and gives an effortless boho vibe. Pair it with ankle boots and a leather jacket for a more edgy look, or opt for kitten heels to dress it up. This is also a great opportunity to mix and match different patterns, like pairing a floral dress with a plaid scarf or cardigan.
An Edgy Pairing: Leather and Plaid
If you’re someone who likes to add a bit of edge to your outfits, try incorporating leather and plaid into your Thanksgiving look. One of the best Thanksgiving outfits this year is to pair leather pants with a plaid top. Leather pants or trousers (faux leather of course) are a great staple to have in your Fall Wardrobe anyway.
You don’t have to break the bank on them either. Some of my favorite budget-friendly sites like Dynamite Clothing and Abercombie have great options! Easily wear it with a square or high-neck bodysuit and layer on a plaid blazer or sweater for added warmth and style.
You can also mix and match textures by pairing a plaid dress with a leather jacket or vice versa. This combination is effortlessly cool and perfect for a Thanksgiving dinner.

Don’t Sleep on Greys
Grey is such an understated elegant color and you’ll be seeing more of it throughout the upcoming Winter Season. This Fall there was tons of inspiration for all grey looks. Pleated skirts were paired with sweaters for a preppy update. There were also grey suits with subtle pops of color.

For your Thanksgiving outfit, a monochromatic look in shades of grey can make a statement without being too loud. Think wide-leg trousers paired with a coordinating bodysuit or a flowy midi skirt with a turtleneck. Silver accessories create a sophisticated and chic ensemble. Pair with different textures and patterns within this color scheme as well to make your look more dynamic.
Cozy Knits and Jeans
For a more relaxed Thanksgiving gathering, opt for a cozy knit sweater paired with your favorite jeans. This classic combo is perfect for staying comfortable while still looking put-together. You can add some interest to the outfit by choosing earthy Fall colors or opting for more trendy tones like deep cherry red. I talk more about that in my post about how to add red to your Fall wardrobe.
Some wonderful sweater options you can try with your jeans are off the shoulder sweaters, cardigans (worn as tops), chunky knit, or cropped. You can also accessorize with a statement belt or add a denim jacket on top for extra warmth.
Alternatively, you can elevate the look by choosing high-waisted jeans and tucking in your sweater for a more polished look. I highly recommend accessorizing with a belt for this look to give it a styled finish.
This is also a great option for those who want to indulge in their Thanksgiving feast without feeling restricted by tight clothing.
Thanksgiving Styled
No matter your style or the type of Thanksgiving gathering you’re attending, there’s an outfit option for you. Whether it’s a sophisticated monochromatic ensemble in shades of grey, a cozy knit and jeans combo for a relaxed get-together or a polished look with a satin skirt and a tucked-in sweater, the goal is to feel comfortable and confident.
Remember, the key to a memorable outfit is in the details; accessories, color choices, and textures can all make a significant difference. Enjoy your Thanksgiving, knowing you’ve put your best fashion foot forward.
