As the leaves change and the air grows crisp, it’s time for a wardrobe update.
This year, we’re trading in the pastels of the months’ past for a fiery Fall trend: Red.
As a Stylist, I’ve sifted through and put together a list of the best and easiest ways you can add this pop of color to your overall wardrobe. From accessories to lipsticks, I’ve got you covered. Keep reading to explore how you can add a dash of this rich and sultry shade to your autumnal attire.
The Red Hat Revolution
Incorporate a bold red hat into your Fall outfits for an easy yet impactful pop of color.
From snug beanies when the weather turns cooler, to the trendy baseball cap for an effortless touch. There’s a red hat out there for every fashionista.
I’m loving the hair ribbon trend this season for a soft, romantic touch as well. It’s a great option to wear for your Thanksgiving dinner and Holiday Parties too. You can easily find options from Amazon.

Make a Statement with Makeup
Red lipstick is a classic that never fades and in my humble opinion, looks stunning on every woman.
Now you can easily go in and find shades that compliment your skin tone. But this Fall, I recommend choosing deeper, richer shades like cherry or burgundy for a sultry touch. It’s great for Holiday dinners or a date night look.
A little Makeup Artist Tip if you’re using an opaque formula. Make sure you use a lip liner first to ‘map’ out the area of your lips. Then fill it in with that liner. Add the lipstick on top and SLIGHTLY set it with translucent powder for a longer-lasting effect.
If a bold lip isn’t your style, or if you want something more daytime, go for a red gloss, lip oil, or lightweight lip stain for a subtler yet striking effect.
Nail the Trend
Transform your nails into fashion accessories with a fresh coat of red polish. This Fall the top nail color is this deep cherry lacquer.
Dark maroons or vibrant scarlets are also great shades that can bring out the Fall in your style and wardrobe. Snag up some of these polishes before they’re gone like OPI ‘Red Wine’ or Essie ‘Full Blast’.
If you can’t make it out to the salon, quick and affordable drugstore options make it easy to match your nail color with every outfit too. Try out some fun and decorative nail stickers, or play with a new nail shape with press-on nails.

Jazz up with Jewelry
Add a splash of red to your outfit with jewelry. Whether it’s a statement chunky red necklace or a pair of subtle red earrings, red accessories will bring a vibrant touch to any ensemble.
Fall Runways had designers pairing Red jewelry with all-black outfits, and you can easily adopt the same aesthetic. Simply stick to a neutral palette (black, cream, tan, white, etc.) and let the red jewelry of your choice make the impact.
On my Stylist Wishlist is this carnelian beaded necklace from Lié Studio. It’s the perfect shade of red and I love it paired with a white top and jeans for a casual option. I can easily dress it up with a black dress too! For a more budget-friendly choice, you can’t go wrong with this Mejuri necklace!
Bold Clothing Choices
If you love making fashion statements, why not wear red? There are so many options with this one, so I’m breaking it down a little more by clothing section for you.
Coats/Jackets
Dare to stand out this season with red coats or jackets. They are a surefire way to make a statement and break away from the traditional blacks and browns rampant during the colder months. A red trench or bomber jacket can instantly transform your outfit from basic to bold.
If you’re feeling really adventurous, try a red leather jacket for an edgy look.
Sweaters/Cardigans
If you don’t want to spend the money on a trendy color jacket, nothing screams Fall quite like cozy sweaters. A red sweater is a wardrobe must-have – it’s versatile, comfortable, and effortlessly stylish.
As a Stylist I can tell you, you’ll get so much more wear out of a red sweater than a jacket if you’re only able to pick one. It’s super easy for layering over your shoulders if you are experiencing a warmer Fall. And, you’ll be able to fit heavier jackets over when you need.
An oversized red knit can be paired with jeans for a casual look. Or, with a mini skirt and boots for a more refined outfit. I highly recommend looking for styles made with a majority of wool, cashmere, or cotton. It seems like an extra cost, but these higher-quality materials will not only last longer but feel better.
*I could go on forever about this, but no matter what style you end up adding to your wardrobe, please DO NOT HANG UP YOUR SWEATER. Fold it nicely and store it in a drawer to save its shape.*
Tops
Red tops are an excellent choice if you want to incorporate a touch of red without fully committing to the bold hue.
A red blouse can add a pop of color to your office wear or elevate your everyday jeans-and-tee combo. Experiment with different shades and textures, like a burgundy satin top or a ribbed tank, to find the style that best fits your personality and lifestyle.
This two pack from Amazon is a simple way you can add the color at a really easy price point. And again, if you living in a warmer climate (talking to you L.A.) this is a great option.
Dresses
Red dresses make a fantastic option if you’re looking to make a memorable fashion statement this season. Whether you’re looking for a stand-out Fall Birthday outfit, attending a holiday party, but especially as a wedding guest in the Fall, it’s an obvious choice.
The bold red tone is about passion and energy and is sure to make you stand out in the crowd. Autumn weddings often feature deep, rich colors, and a beautiful red dress can perfectly complement this color scheme (as long as it’s not part of the bridal party colors of course).
Opt for a long, flowing maxi style for a more formal event. If it’s more casual, a playful skater or bodycon silhouette is the way to go.
For a truly unforgettable look, consider adding in some texture with a velvet dress or one with unique details such as ruffles or cutouts. For some celebrity inspiration, Lily Collins recently wore a deep scarlet velvet Elie Saab gown from their Autumn/Winter 2023 Runway to a red carpet event. You can easily pull off a similar look with this dress from Revolve!
Always remember to pair your red dress with neutral accessories to balance out the look. Let the dress be the star of the show.
Belt it Out
A red belt can effortlessly blend the color trend into your Fall Wardrobe. Cinch a flowing dress with a skinny red belt or add a sleek touch to high-waisted trousers with a wider belt.
In general, adding a belt can take you from just wearing clothes, to wearing a styled outfit in an instant.
Step Up the Game with Shoes
Round off your look with red shoes. We’ve all seen the trending shoes of the season: Sambas, knee high boots, kitten heel pumps, mary janes, and even western boots.
Lucky for us, all of those styles come in the red color the fashion enthusiasts are craving! These statement shoes can easily elevate and add a pop of color to any outfit and your overall wardrobe.
Pair the mary janes with your jeans, or look ‘casually updated’ with the Adidas worn with a satin skirt. Mixing and matching this trending red color with the must-have Fall shoes will give you so much versatility all throughout 2024! Plus, this is one of the easier options to do as you can basically get two trends in one, and blends in seamlessly if you have a more neutral clothing palette.
Handbag Hues: Going Red
A red handbag is a brilliant way to incorporate this season’s hottest trend into your wardrobe. It’s a versatile piece that works well with a range of neutral tones, providing a pop of color that draws the eye.
From a sleek everyday hobo to a more understated evening clutch, the options are endless.
Pair a red handbag with a simple, monochrome outfit to really make it stand out, or use it to complement other red accents in your ensemble. Consider textures too – a red leather handbag adds a touch of luxury and sophistication, while a suede one brings a cozy, autumnal feel. From designer to thrifted, it’s all about how you choose to express your unique style with this option.
Spectacular Shades: Opt for Red Sunglasses
Another chic way to incorporate this red trend into your look is through sunglasses. Red sunglasses can bring a vibrant and exciting twist to your overall style. These can range from aviators to cat-eye frames, offering a myriad of options to suit your personal taste and face shape. Paired with a monochromatic outfit, red sunglasses can serve as a fashion-forward focal point, immediately drawing attention to your face.
On sunny days, they not only protect your eyes but also add a daring touch to your ensemble. I’m a big advocate for sun protection, so make sure you get UV400 lenses (full UVA/UVB protection) as well as polarized for anti-glare.
Remember, sunglasses are not just about practicality, they’re about making a statement too. So why not make that statement bold and red this season? Choose your own adventure in the world of red sunglasses and let your style do the talking!
To Wrap Things Up
Embracing Red in your Fall 2023 Wardrobe is a stylish way to refresh your look and stay on top of the season’s hottest color trend. From head-to-toe, makeup to chic accessories, there are countless and easy ways to incorporate this vibrant shade into your attire.
Whether you choose to go bold with a red jacket or subtly accentuate with red earrings, this color trend promises a fun and exciting twist to any outfit. So, get creative and paint the town red this Fall!

[…] A bold lip is always a great option for any occasion, and your Thanksgiving dinner is no exception. As another makeup idea for Thanksgiving, choose a rich, deep color like a burgundy, red, or berry shade to tie in with the fall theme. It’s an easy glamorous option for the evening or dinner anyway! It’s also one of my favorite ways to wear the trendy Red color of the season. You can read more about it in my post here. […]
